Believe Them
The idea of “if someone shows you who they are, believe them” is not a direct quote from the Bible, but it does have some resonance with biblical principles. The Bible contains many teachings about discernment, wisdom, and understanding human nature.
In Matthew 7:16, Jesus says, “By their fruit you will recognize them.” This verse suggests that one can discern a person’s character by observing their actions and the “fruit” they produce in their lives. Similarly, in 1 John 4:1, believers are encouraged to test the spirits to see whether they are from God.
Proverbs 4:23 advises, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” This verse speaks to the importance of discernment and caution in relationships, suggesting that it is important to pay attention to the character of others and to be careful about who we allow into our lives.
While the exact phrase “if someone shows you who they are, believe them” is not found in the Bible, the general principle of exercising discernment and wisdom in our interactions with others aligns with biblical teachings.
