Scripture for today 1-2-2024
Ephesians 4:32 (NIV) says, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
This verse is part of a passage in which the apostle Paul encourages the Ephesian believers to live in a manner worthy of their calling as followers of Christ. In this particular verse, Paul emphasizes the importance of showing kindness, compassion, and forgiveness toward one another.
“Be kind and compassionate to one another” speaks to the attitude and actions that should characterize the relationships within the Christian community. Kindness involves displaying a gentle and considerate disposition toward others, while compassion involves showing empathy and a willingness to help those in need.
The verse also highlights the crucial concept of forgiveness. Just as God, through Christ, has forgiven believers of their sins, they are called to extend that same forgiveness to others. This echoes the teaching of Jesus in the Lord’s Prayer, where believers ask God to “forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors” (Matthew 6:12, NIV).
In summary, Ephesians 4:32 urges believers to exhibit kindness, compassion, and forgiveness in their interactions with others, reflecting the love and grace they have received from God through Christ. It underscores the importance of maintaining harmonious relationships within the Christian community and beyond, as well as demonstrating the transformative power of God’s love in our lives.
