This One Is On You

Title: This One is on You

Today, I bring to you a message based on the powerful scriptures from the book of Jeremiah, chapters 18 and 19. These passages reveal to us important truths about God’s sovereignty, our responsibility, and the consequences of our actions.

In Jeremiah 18:1-6, we read about the prophet Jeremiah being instructed by the Lord to go down to the potter’s house. There, Jeremiah sees the potter working on the clay, shaping it as he pleases. However, when the vessel is marred in the potter’s hand, the potter does not give up on it; instead, he reshapes it into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to do.

This passage serves as a powerful reminder of God’s sovereignty over our lives. Just as the potter molds the clay, God is the ultimate potter shaping our lives according to His divine plan. He has the power to mold us and reshape us according to His will, even when we may be marred or broken.

But in Jeremiah 19:15, we are presented with a different perspective. The people of Judah had turned away from God, engaging in idolatry and wickedness. Despite warnings from the prophets, they persisted in their disobedience. In this verse, God declares, “This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: ‘I am going to bring on this city and all the villages around it every disaster I pronounced against them because they were stiff-necked and would not listen to my words.'”

The consequences of their actions were severe, and God held them accountable for their choices. This serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of obedience to God’s word and the responsibility we have for our actions. We cannot expect to live in rebellion against God and escape the consequences of our sin.

As we reflect on these scriptures, let us remember that while God is sovereign and in control, we also have a responsibility to live in obedience to His word. We must heed His warnings, follow His commands, and seek His will for our lives. Let us not be stiff-necked like the people of Judah, but instead humble ourselves before the Lord and submit to His authority.

May we take this message to heart and examine our lives in light of God’s word. Let us strive to be vessels worthy of the potter’s hands, molded according to His divine purpose. And may we always remember that our actions have consequences, and ultimately, the choice is ours.

Amen.
