When you’re not sure

If you’re unsure about your salvation, it’s important to address your concerns and seek clarity. Here are some steps you can take:

1. Examine Your Faith: Take time to reflect on your belief in Jesus Christ and your relationship with God. Consider if you have genuinely placed your faith in Jesus as your Savior and if you have repented of your sins. Reflect on whether you have experienced a genuine transformation in your life as a result of your faith.

2. Study God’s Word: Dive into the Scriptures and study what the Bible says about salvation, God’s grace, and the assurance of salvation. Pay attention to passages that speak about the conditions and promises of salvation, such as John 3:16, Romans 10:9, and 1 John 5:11-13. Seek to understand God’s character and the depth of His love and grace.

3. Seek God in Prayer: Approach God in honest and sincere prayer. Share your doubts, fears, and uncertainties with Him. Ask Him to reveal His truth and to give you assurance and peace. Be open to hearing from Him through the prompting of the Holy Spirit.

4. Seek Wise Counsel: Reach out to a trusted spiritual mentor, pastor, or mature Christian friend who can provide guidance and support. Share your concerns with them and seek their insight based on their knowledge of the Bible and their own faith journey. They can offer wisdom, encouragement, and prayer support.

5. Examine Your Fruit: Assess the evidence of your faith by examining the fruit it has produced in your life. Look for signs of spiritual growth, such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). While no one is perfect, the presence of these qualities can provide evidence of the Holy Spirit’s work in your life.

6. Embrace God’s Promises: Remember that salvation is not based on feelings or emotions, but on the unchanging promises of God. Trust in His faithfulness and the sufficiency of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. Remind yourself of God’s love, grace, and forgiveness. Cling to His promises and hold onto the truth of His Word.

7. Take Steps of Faith: Actively live out your faith by seeking to follow Christ and obey His teachings. Engage in acts of service, love others, and pursue righteousness. As you walk in faith and obedience, you can experience a deepening assurance of your salvation.

Remember, finding assurance of salvation is a process that unfolds over time. Be patient with yourself and continue seeking God’s truth and guidance. Keep pressing into your relationship with Him, and He will reveal His truth and grant you the assurance you seek.
